Glenwood Springs. Holliday had an infamous reputation as a sharp-shooter and has popped up in several movies and books throughout popular culture, played by various actors including Kirk Douglas, Adam West, Val Kilmer, and Dennis Quaid, among others. He is one of the most recognizable figures in tales of the American Old West, and is typically remembered via his relationship to fellow outlaw Wyatt Earp.

Unfortunately, Holliday contracted tuberculosis and made his way to Glenwood Springs inhoping that the geothermal hot springs waters would heal him. He died shortly after, however; on his deathbed, Holliday asked a nurse for a shot of whiskey. A grave and memorial site is dedicated to Holliday in Linwood Cemetary, overlooking the city of Glenwood Springs. Best in the summer and fall seasons, this hike takes visitors up the mountainside on a wide dirt path.

Inhe moved to Philadelphia to attend what is now called the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, where he graduated in Doc first returned to Georgia to open his dental practice, but was diagnosed with tuberculosis soon after. To help his condition, he was advised to move to a drier climate so Doc transplanted himself and his practice to Dallas.

Due to his failing health he could no longer make a living as an honest dentist and focused more on earning a living as a card player and dealer. While hanging out with other gamblers, gunfighters, and known gangs, he was among the gunslingers at the shootout at the O.

On October 26th,in Tombstone, Arizona, Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp were among the deputized marshals who participated in the second gun battle on Fremont Street, best known as the Gunfight at the O. The gunfight led to many more shootouts, and Holliday and Earp continued to ride together until they parted company a year later. Inwhile serving as a local dentist in Dodge City, Kansas, Doc is said to have saved Wyatt Earp from a shootout with a gang of cowboys who had come to kill him.
